All of Our Rights

We need to step back from bickering about gun rights. It is clear from the Constitution that we have gun rights, so this message is for both sides of the issue.

The rancor about upcoming bills that will become law in Virginia is about rights other than guns.  In an effort to emplace “common sense” laws to protect the citizenry of this state, the General Assembly will submit legislation (and the governor will sign it) that will restrict the guaranteed rights of all Virginians.

Things like the right to peaceful assembly, freedom from warrantless search and seizure, lawful arrest and detention, these rights will be subject to interpretation by partisan politicians instead of assured by the law of the land.

Gun owners are the canary in the coal mine.  Everyone needs to look beyond the issue of guns, and ask ourselves how much personal liberty are we willing to lose so that lawmakers beholden to out-of-state donors can claim victory over us.  We are afraid of what our government is preparing to do, and that should make every voter take notice.
